Lateral distribution of laterite overlying ultramafite at Gebe/Moluccas

The structure of parent rock as well as the morphological situatio influence considerably for the development of lateric horizon. A characteristic profile of laterite deposit Gebe consist of (1-18m) saprolite zone at the bottom and (1-13m) limonite zone at the top of the profile.

Geostatistical investigations to the lateral distribution of nickel and cobalt content as well as thickness of limonite and saprolite zone give quantitatively information, such as shown by their experimental variograms.
